A little note re: the Royal Albert Hall concert
As you probably already know, Jonas Kaufmann is unwell and has cancelled many of his engagements, including his participation to the RAH concert. Anna and I would like to wish Jonas a speedy recovery — we want to see you back in stage pronto, my friend!

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone...
…not just to my colleagues and all the fantastic people working at the Royal Opera House, but to everyone who attended the performances. Thank you for your comments, for every “good luck!”, “in bocca al lupo!” and “toi toi toi!”, thank you for all the flowers and notes — special thanks to Leo, I eventually received your letter! Thank you, you’re an amazing kid! :-) Thank you all for...

No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is...
I got home very very late last night after the show, and, as I couldn’t fall asleep due to post-show excitement, I thought it was time for me to update this blog… I don’t think I can even start expressing properly the gratitude I feel for my colleagues in this production, which, once again, has confirmed to me that Mozart’s Don Giovanni can only work if carried on as a...

An heartfelt message...
A few days ago Keith Warner, with whom I’ve worked at the Theater an der Wien a couple of years ago in his staging of Don Giovanni, and who also staged L’elisir d’amore when I debuted in the USA (I was 22!), asked me to write a note for a benefit concert for the Copenhagen Opera House, currently facing financial difficulties.  Of course I said yes straight away, and Anna also...

On music on TV, opera at the movies, and on why...
Last weekend I engaged in a lively conversation with people on twitter — at first we talked about the TV broadcasting of opera and classical music in general, then the conversation moved on to operatic movies, not intended as filmed stage productions broadcast in cinemas, but rather as opera adapted to become real movies. It’s been a really interesting discussion, some people suggested...

Thoughts and Thank-yous
Since my family and most of my friends can’t be in Barcelona, I didn’t know how to make them have a peek at this Faust we’re doing here, but then, lo and behold!, as if he’d been reading my mind, a friend of mine sent me a link of this video of me singing Le veau d’or – thanks to whoever put that on YouTube! :-) As I already said, Faust in Barcelona is an...

I love my job!!. :-)
It’s not just about technique and interpretation, it’s above all about making the audience enjoy the show, being captured by it, almost feel like they’re living the story that’s being staged. Opera lovers are very picky, and rightly so! So I know every time I step on a stage I must do my best to make them fully enjoy an opera they probably already know very well, because...

Oslo
My thoughts are with the families of the victims in Oslo. Tragedies like these shouldn’t happen, there’s no reason in the world for such hatred towards other human beings. Fundamentalism of any kind is just unworthy of mankind. We’re all different yet all equal and we should learn and live in peace, respecting each other and learn from cultural differences, they’re a...

Great people, amazing evening really!!!
At Fuschlsee, last night, it’s been one of those nights that give a real sense to this job. We raised money for children in need, all proceeds went to the Josef Schörghuber Foundation, we made music with all our hearts and people responded to that with great generosity. Thanks to everyone who attended, you turned this little event into something unbelievable. Thanks to Clement Lebe...

Chi già fu del BIANCO crine consigliero?
Hello! As I already mentioned on Facebook and Twitter, my official website will be down for a while for servers maintenance; in the meantime, its url will redirect to this blog straight away, as this runs separately on Tumblr, so, to recap, you’ll find me (and can leave messages, if you wish) on this blog, on Facebook and on Twitter. :-) I’m in Köln right now, rehearsing for the...
